What it measures
The point-of-care tests your medical team asks for.
Klinogicare® StarLab Hormones & Proteins is a portable point-of-care immunoassay analyzer for sports medicine. It tests up to six 50 µL whole-blood samples for one selected marker per run: myoglobin, cortisol, high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI), or cardiac troponin T (cTnT). Analysis takes about 10 minutes.
Each sample goes on its own single-use fluorescence immunoassay disc, and the results appear on the touchscreen. Testing another marker requires a separate run with the appropriate test kit.
For example, testing 24 players for one marker takes four runs: about 40 minutes of instrument time, plus sample collection and disc loading.
MYO
Myoglobin test
An early indicator of muscle damage
Myoglobin may rise earlier than creatine kinase (CK) after muscle damage and returns to baseline sooner. The team physician decides when to test and interprets the result alongside training load and other clinical findings.
CORTISOL
Cortisol blood test
A hormone tracked over time
Cortisol is most useful when tracked over time. The medical team interprets each athlete’s results alongside training load and other findings. A single reading cannot establish recovery status.
hs-cTnI
High-sensitivity troponin I test
A cardiac test for the physician
This assay supports cardiac assessment when clinically indicated. A physician interprets the result alongside symptoms, electrocardiogram (ECG) findings, and medical history. It does not indicate readiness to train.
How it works
On-site testing, from sample to screen.
The analyzer processes the loaded test discs on site in about 10 minutes. Sample collection and loading take additional time.
- 01
Collect 50 µL of whole blood
From a fingertip or an earlobe.
- 02
Load up to six test discs
Each single-use disc holds one sample and has an ID label. The analyzer processes up to six discs for the same marker in one run.
- 03
Read the results on the touchscreen
Results appear after about 10 minutes of analysis.
A portable analyzer that travels with the team.
It is a portable analyzer, not a lab system that takes up half a room. One person can carry it, and it fits on a treatment-room counter, a hotel desk, or a work surface in a clinic or hospital.
- 4.9 kg(10.8 lb)carried by one person
- 32 × 18 × 22.6 cm(12.6 × 7.1 × 8.9 in)desktop footprint
- 2–25 °C(36–77 °F)test kit storage
Test kits
Test kits stored at 2–25 °C.
Each box contains ten single-use tests. Store the kits at 2–25 °C (36–77 °F), including during travel.
- 2–25 °C(36–77 °F)storage
- 12 monthsshelf life
- 10 testsper kit
Estimate your test consumption

StarLab Hormones & Proteins: applications and users
Applications: on-site blood testing of athletes. Results can support athlete monitoring, load management, and injury prevention programs alongside clinical findings and training data. Cardiac troponins are for physician-led assessment when clinically indicated. The analyzer can also support research on recovery and sports performance. It works alongside StarLab Biochem, which measures creatine kinase (CK) and clinical chemistry panels.
Who it’s for: team physicians of professional clubs, national team doctors and coaches, sports medicine clinics and hospitals, sports science and research centers.

Frequently asked questions
How is it different from StarLab Biochem?
StarLab Biochem runs clinical chemistry panels, including CK, for one sample at a time. StarLab Hormones & Proteins is an immunoassay analyzer that tests up to six samples for one selected marker per run. They are separate analyzers with different methods.
Why measure myoglobin if we already track CK?
The two markers describe different time windows. Myoglobin may rise earlier than creatine kinase (CK) after muscle damage and return to baseline sooner. CK can remain elevated for several days. The team physician determines when to test and how to interpret the results.
Can cortisol tell us how an athlete is recovering?
Not on its own. A single cortisol result cannot establish recovery status. Teams that track cortisol interpret each athlete’s trend alongside training load and other findings.
Can troponin show whether an athlete is ready to train?
No. Troponin I and troponin T are separate cardiac assays used when clinically indicated. A physician interprets the result alongside symptoms, ECG findings, and medical history. Neither test indicates readiness to train.
Can it help with injury prevention and sports performance?
It gives the medical team objective blood data, not a prediction. Myoglobin shows muscle damage early and cortisol shows stress trends, so staff can add these results to athlete monitoring together with training load, wellness and clinical assessment. Decisions on load, recovery and return to play stay with the physician and coaches.
How many tests will our team need each month?
Multiply the number of athletes by the number of markers and by how many times each athlete is tested. Each kit contains ten tests. Example: 24 players, one marker, once a week over four weeks gives 24 × 1 × 4 = 96 tests, which is about ten kits. The kits have a stated shelf life of 12 months when stored at 2–25 °C (36–77 °F); check expiry dates when planning stock.
